TR2/3/3A Hood Stick Cover LTD Studs

I understand that the NLA interior rear corner hood stick cover studs (559764) were longer than average. Geo Hahn posted the below link a while back in a tonneau cover discussion. Would these fit the bill for those two stick cover studs?

https://www.macsautoparts.com/ford_...ickel-double-stud-on-8-32-machine-thread.html

Were the holes for these studs tapped at the factory only for those cars receiving the optional cover?

Admittedly one of those small details, but your experience is appreciated.

Regards, Walter

i am betting on the fact that the studs on the TR3 would have been screw in type not threaded. Unless you want to try to stick a welded nut back there before putting all the interior in.

I did not use a longer than usual stud for that location - a stock LTD with sheet-metal threads was fine. The upholstery on mine covered the hole but with some gentle probing I found it was there in the capping.

Edit - Jerry is quite right... since that is in the capping, not the body I believe it is a machine thread & nut

Where I used that longer stud was on the LTD that accepts both the grommet and a female LTD on the later tonneau covers (the sort with a zippered gore for easier folding:

That one does fasten with a machine screw & nut.

I agree with George. All the supposed original capping pieces I got (off ebay) had the standard length stud (short), with a nut on the back side holding it to the capping. I have a pre-TS60000 and needed to use two longer studs in the position at the top of the dog-leg (the first snap on either side for the top), or the top kept coming off at speed. Another club member has a very original pre60k, and all his studs are the longer type. I think the TRF kits are short studs, while Moss has longer ones available.

For the hood stick cover, a longer one might make it easier (assuming you ever actually install the cover). If you do use one of those longer ones, you may have to cut off some of the threaded portion of the underside, because there isn't much room under the capping. The padded interior dogleg panel almost covers up my stud. Once I did have the hood stick cover on, but I don't remember if that snap worked or not.

Gentlemen,

Thanks for your feedback. My mistake about the two interior LTD studs for the hood stick. Should have been looking in the right section of the TR3 parts book. They are part number 552669, a standard LTD stud with nut, stocked by TRF.

However, there are indeed two interior studs for the tonneau cover with the number 559764, NLA. They were at the bottom of the quarter trim panels in cars kitted out at the factory with tonneau, as discussed/shown in this thread:
https://www.britishcarforum.com/bcf...What-s-fastner-for&highlight=hood+stick+cover I understand they are there to secure the unused halves stuffed behind the seat when the tonneau is still mounted in the rear.

No idea what the difference was with these studs and they were not present anymore on mine, as far as I can recall.
