Hood release mechanism

This is probably one of those questions with a VERY simple answer, but I don't get it.... Can someone tell me if its possible to remove the T knob for the hood release next to the console without removing the whole cable. If so, I would really appreciate knowing how.

Thanks in advance

Al,

Unfortunately, no. You have to remove the entire cable unit. You can remove the knob and internal cable but putting the internal cable back can be a problem, BTDT, and won't try it again. I ended up removing the entire assembly to get the inner cable back in after cleaning and lubing it.

Biff - thanks for the insight. I was pretty sure that was the case, but it could easily have been me being dense.

Best Regards
Al

Too late. Since I have already removed the inner cable, and am having problems getting it reinstalled, are there any tricks to reaching the nut holding the housing to the transmission tunnel?

Hi Al, having gone through the pain of this myself when the crimp holding the cable in the end of the barrel let go, the whole cable does have to come out. Getting to the nut basically involves getting the left side of the car up, and getting friendly with the underside of it. You will probably need a helper or a set of vise grips to hold the barrel on the inside of the car while you unscrew the nut. Hope that helps!
