hood rail bag

Has anyone ever had one? I just got one off ebay and it is the first one I have ever had for a BE. It looks to be the real thing with the right "patina" of age, the rails fit perfectly and it should stow the bits away nicely and quietly in the boot. It is made for the "split" type rails which is what I have! It does need a little stitch restoration, but is in otherwise pretty good shape! The one question I have about it is the strap and buckle in the center which is too short to go all the way around it and seems to be there to tie the package to something in the boot!! Could that be what the little tie-down loop is for between the seats just aft of the drive-shaft tunnel?

These bags (and the split hood sticks) were for the later square cars. The sticks were designed to go around the spare tire, I believe, down in the well there. I seem to remember that the Horler book as some photos of the original bits in one of the later cars.

Back when I had one of those I used to just wrap it around the outside- it would keep the sticks from rattling.
