hood bonnet prop rod

My '63 has a prop rod for the hood, attached to the hood but I'm not sure where it's supposed to be anchored when the hood is up. Up til now I've just put in on the rubber channel strip, but the glue gave way on that the other day, slamming the hood on the prop rod and chipping the paint on the fender in the process. Where is it supposed to go?

about 6 inches back from the rad saddle under the lip of the left fender should be a metal tab with a slot for the prop rod. I looked for a picture but don't have any showing it on my car - sorry

Think he ment when it is up?

Yeah, put simply, when you lift your hood, where do you put the prop rod end?

Check out the photo. This is what I have on my 64, the only difference is it's on the driver's side

. Should be pretty obvious if it's there. If not, then it may have been removed/broken off in the past.
