Honda Accord shift slop

I've got an 85 Honda Accord with a 5 speed. The shifter is so sloppy that it drives me crazy. Can anything be done about it? I remember years ago when I drove VWs there was a product called Slick Shift or something like that which was a bolt on device you put on the shift linkage to tighten it up. Is there anything like that for the Accord? This is a beater third car so I don't want to spend much.

Jack it up, crawl underneath. Look at where the linkage and control rod mount on the trans. Rubber bushings inside a u-shaped coupling on the linkage. They get tired. Make sure the control rod is tight at both ends, on the trans and back at the shifter.

I work for Honda Canada. There is a kit available called a shifter bushing kit which looks after this very problem. Go to your local dealer and inquire. If they don't give you a satisfactory answer, PM me and I'll get you one in Canada and send it out. They run about $40 for the kit

That sounds like just the ticket. I'll head down and get one payday. Thanks.
