Just because it SHOULDN"T be linked to the GFI in the bathroom doesn't mean it ISN'T. Had a similar problem with a plug out in the garage. Shared a wall with the 1/2 bath downstairs... but the plug and the gfi were on different walls. Lights in the bath worked. Outlet in the garage stopped working. Tester gave me some sort of voltage reading if i remember correctly. Found the GFI tripped on the outlet in the bathroom killed the plug in the garage.

Don't count on any sort of logic in the wiring of a house: new, old, union wired, whatever... unless you were there signing off on the wiring before the sheetrock got hung-ed.

Pretty sure the "electrician" crew for this housing tract in Vegas wired my house on a friday afternoon after a long lunch at the saloon around the corner.

I have an outside socket that's controlled by the GFI in the bathroom inside.
 
so far as I know all the GFI's are currently powered - I think I'm just going to wait till the pending reno takes place.

Do you mean a light socket or an outlet?
An outside outlet that is accessable from the ground should be GFI controlled. Having it on the bathroom circuit might not have been the best way to do it though. :jester:
 
Not uncommon though. Electricians will go to any length to save money
 
Yup. The hovel had the GFI reset outlet in the garage, sockets in the loo and out on the back porch. Real PITA.
 
Got em all over my house but then again I was the builder
 
I retrofitted. And added more runs. Garage & kitchen have outlets every six feet, garage are quads and are "bench height" too. Hate extension cords and "strips".
