Holy Sprite Pics

Did the guys in KC pull an engine out or put one in?

This is such a cool venture, kind of restores my faith in humanity!

I am wondering though, what will the car be finished in when it is done?

All black with white piping on the seats and white trim, in honor of his service to the priesthood?

All white in honor of the angels and all things spritual?

Or D*vil Red....after all it IS a Sprite, which is another name for Pixie, Elf, or Imp....

Enquiring minds want to know.....

Wait, I know! Black body, white top, red interior to honor all 3!!

The KC guys pulled a 1500 engine that was not wanted in the final car. I think it is known that the good Father does NOT want a black car. The idea has been put out there of a white car with deep blue interior with white piping.

This is just a bit of news from yesterday. More later.

We are home now after 2 days and 1330 miles. Huge smiles on our faces! This
morning at Oh Dark Thirty we departed Colby, KS and arrived in Topeka at
Bobo's old fashioned hamburger stand a few minutes past noon. Mike Osipik
and Mac Humphries from the Kansas City Austin Healey Club arrived moments
later. We hooked the trailer up to Mac's vehicle and performed a little
surgery on the junk trailer tail light to get it working. Then we
enjoyed terrific cheese burgers at Bobo's. These things are hand made
patties and come wrapped in plain white paper like they used to do!! I
skipped the homemade onion rings and after the others bragged on theirs I
was kicking myself.

About 1:30 pm, Mike and Mac took off for Kansas City with the Holy Sprite as
we waved farewell to our little chum of the past two days! The trailer is
doing just fine though we kept the speed at about 60 mph on the Interstate
just to be safe. Aside from the fratzed tail light which was due entirely to
shoddy engineering and construction, the only casualty we experienced in 650
miles from west Denver to Topeka was a tie-down strap which rubbed up
against something sharp and broke. No sweat - I put another strap on and off
we went.

Over lunch we discussed the extra heavy load and Mike decided to ask the
Kansas City AHC to yank the lump at their tech session meeting tonight. I
see from his email that they have done that and will leave Wednesday morning
for St. Louis with the rolling Holy Sprite on the trailer and the engine and
tranny in the back of Mike's Land Cruiser.

Finally, I posted up a few of the pictures we took along the way and in the
severe thunderstorms last night on Larry Macy's website. I also have some
AVI videos that I took and I'll put those up somewhere tomorrow and give
everyone the URL....

I am hoping the good Father stops by this weekend.
I need to verify a few things with him. He does not know the car is on it's way.
The last time we talked, it was just an idea. Not it's happening.
I do know he does not want a black car. He said he has had to drive a black car for the past 50 years. No more. I thought he mentioned white, he was going to think about that.
I have seen some pictures of the car and it is better than I thought.
This should be an easy project.
The first "organization or Spridget handymen in transit" will be in mid September.
This will be for body work. Everybody is invited to Toms River to help out or just sit back and learn as the guys pound out dents, sand down paint, and spread putty where it's needed. I did hear that it needs some minor welding too.
Probably mid October will be another meeting for the assembly of the car as long as I can get all the parts needed, seats covered and round up the material for an interior. Again, come help or watch.
I do have enough spare rooms for 3 or 4 people, more if you want to sleep on the floor  There is a new Comfort Inn 5 block away on the highway and October will be off season.

White with deep blue interior and matching top sounds really sweet!

What is needed more - labor, funds or.....? I'd be glad to contribute labor in October if it is needed over a weekend, but I'd hate to come all that way if there are enough hands already there. Is there a place to send donations? I may have missed it in the previous threads.

Thanks for keeping us posted on the journey!

Well, Holy Sprite is resting comfortably in my garage in Southwest Ohio. I thought I had better back it into the garage last night for fear of hearing the neighbors saying, "Good Lord, he got another one!"

It was great to see David and Trish again. Last saw them at LotO. Of course, it should come as no surprise that barefoot David and Trish towed the Holy Sprite from just west of St. Louis to south of Indianapolis with a Miata!

David and I carefully plotted a meeting place which would avoid Indy rush hour traffic, only to have a road closure when we were about 5 miles apart. After a slight detour, we met up near Bluff Creek, IN about 6:15 pm.

David is taking the tires and wheels from Holy Sprite, so when the tires were taken off the front of the trailer (and with the 1500 gone), the trailer was back heavy. We moved Holy Sprite forward on the trailer about 6 in. and all was well. Towed great at 58-62 mph.

About 2 hours into my return trip, David called my cell to inform me that he still had the safety pin for the trailer latch! I will replace that today. I need to also add an extension to the flat 4 plug. All trailer lights worked fine when I left David and Trish, but a passerby informed me that the lights were out. The first right-hand turn pulled the plug out. Easy fix.

We will be heading out of the West Chester, Ohio area Friday around noon and will meet up with Bud in Cambridge, UK!!! Nope, that's Cambridge, Ohio. After that, just a trip across the Keystone State and on to Frank's for an extreme makeover.

Let me know the route through PA and if I can help in anyway

Fr Jack just stopped by.
He reminded me of a little kid who just saw his first 2 wheel bicycle on
Christmas Morning he was that excited.
He wrote a note to the list and will be here for it's arrival when
Kevin brings the Holy Sprite to my house on 8/24.
As he was leaving he had to go out to the garage to "drool" over the
engine that will be going into his Holy Sprite.
It is all painted and ready to drop in and looks pretty sitting on the
floor.
