TR2/3/3A Hole on top of my tranny tunnel

On my 1960 TR3A tranny tunnel there is a 1/2 inch(approx) hole on the top, on the passenger side of the tunnel and about 2.5" from the front lip. Is that for the battery drain tube?

Battery and the air conditioning vent hose. put a T in the line and dump both into that hole.

Wait...air conditioning? I have never heard of AC on these cars!!

Only if you consider the air from the front vent to be air conditioned :smile:

It has been suggested to me that hole is for the overdrive wire feed through. Can that be possible? It would make sense because of where the wires have to go to hit the switches on the top of the gear box cover.
Further comments solicited.

Check out Fig 2 on page N3 of the workshop manual. It pretty clearly shows the battery box drain going to the hole on top.

I can't find the reference at the moment, but I'm fairly certain that the factory routed the OD wires on the TR3 through the hole located low on the LH side of the tunnel. I don't like that location, so mine are routed out through one of the holes in the vertical part of the firewall, and go back to the switches & solenoid. That way I don't have to mess with the wires when R&R the tunnel. (Got the idea from Triumph, that's the original routing on Stags.)

Forget to look in the factory manual to answer questions like that! Need to rummage around in there more often, I guess heh.
