My bride just called me from home. Someone claiming to be from Microsoft just called the house and asked for me by name. Said they, "Microsoft", show that my computer was infected with a virus and wanted to speak to me.

Caller ID said "Unknown name, unknown number".

Watch out - scammers on the prowl!

Get those calls from that on my ID .
Don't even answer it

I never answer "Unknown name" calls.

Mickey - how many Unknown Name Unknown Number calls have you got recently?

Wanna challenge me? I've had 32 in the last two weeks.

Jeez - why bother with a land line OR cell. Just stick to emails and email voice.

Unreal ...

Dunno how many, Tom. Plenty, though.

If you have Comcast voice you can track all the incoming and blocked calls

Mickey- The local news here JUST RAN a story describing the EXACT scam call... the caller claims to be from "Windows". They want to direct you to a site and then gain control of your computer.

Don't have Comcast.

Oh no... hope your not thinking :hammer:

I didn't say you did ,Mick
Just for those who do , kind of interesting the calls during the day when the house is empty

Check THIS out.

Don - We get calls all hours. Most of the "Unknown" calls come during the day.

Elliot - Good story. Sounds like the call we got.

Gentlemen ... the more I hear that folks are falling for this stuff, the more I fear the next generation's future. "Idiocracy" anyone?

And, it seems there's no purpose to answering the phone anymore. If there's no message left, it wasn't important. If there's a message, use some brains and decide whether or not to call them back.

Amazing.

As long as people are trusting (which I hope never changes!), predators will take advantage, unless there's a certain balance of skepticism.

Sadly, this stuff (and other similar phishing) must work or it wouldn't continue. I've received some very realistic-looking emails from my bank. If only there was a way to tell EVERYONE that these are always scams.

Idda invited over for some ide tea and buckshot.

That reminds me of a funny phone call story w/ Ol' Tercy.

I was over at his place visiting when the phone rang. Ninety yearr old Terc' answered it, said hello and listened to the caller. After a while, Terc' laughed and said, " I gotta good ol' shotgun fer that" and hung up the phone.

I asked him who it was.

"Neighborhood Watch, they wanted to put a sign up in my yard. I don't need no darn sign..."

Lord I miss that old man!
