TR4/4A Hmmm, Cardboard Tunnel for Rad - 4A

Just rec'd a Made in England, front tunnel for the 4A rad made out of cardboard with a leatherette paper finish on the inside (?) of the tunnel..... Little or no flanging to mount the tunnel to the grill frame..... full of tiny torn out rivets holding the whole affair together in it's "gracefull" arcs.....
I not sure yet but I think that I am not quite satisfied with this piurchase. Can anyone esle share some thoughts and photos of their experience with these, please?

I am sorely tempted to modify this a little and have a metal unit made.
I am aso thinking about adding one to the rear of the rad or fan side as I understand that this is far more efficient

I too got the Moss repro. I have to say it is one really nice reproduction. I still had the original but replaced it as it was looking a little too tatty. The Moss product looked spot-on and was a perfect fit.

I can understand why some prefer the metal version but even if I didn't live in a dry climate I think I would choose the original style just because the part offered is so correct and well made.

Geo, do you have one on your TR3? If you do how about popping a picture of it on the forum. I am going to be putting one on that came from TRF and would like to see how it goes.

Thanks, Tinkerman

I do have one of the TR3A. The fit there too was perfect.

Unfortunately a decent picture is well nigh impossible w/o removing the grille.

In case you don't know, the TR3A version was usually painted body color.

Whoops, another one of those small things I didn't know about. I can see that I'm going to have to get some rattle cans filled with the body color!

Thanks for the info, tinkerman

The trqb one is pretty swish!
Mine came from trf as well but doesn't have the oiled or impregnated appearance.
I will have to go back and refit somehow

The original didn't fit around my electric fan very well on my 3A so I replicated one in stainless steel. I did a brushed finish, not painted and looks pretty cool through the grille. So I won't win concours, oh well.

Mine is from Moss. No torn out rivets. Nice and clean, but looks more like the VB picture posted above. It came folded. The cardboard is durable, no question there.

The shroud/tunnel seemed to do its job by reducing radiator temperature by about one tenth of one percent of one degree on an already cool day.

It looks nice, however. Rather stock.

Yes, I recall now that it was looking at yours that convinced me to replace mine.

My only beef on the Moss one was that they slapped a Moss sticky label on it in plain sight. Took some careful peeling to remove the label without damaging the fibreboard. They do the same thing with the fibreboard TR3 fuel tank cover -- what are they thinking? They should put the label on the backside/underside.

My Moss one (TR4) was not folded, came fully shaped and rigid.
