Historic Racing

Well, I just bought a Fidanza aluminum MGB flywheel so I guess I have to build a car to go around it - anybody here into historic racing? /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/driving.gif

E-Prod, F-Ford and F-A, before it was "historic" /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Hey Tony,

I’ll be installing one of those on my B when the engine is done. Probably going to have it “balanced” as a unit with the crank, rods & pistons.

Have you picked a project car for the historic racing yet?

Yep, I bought it from Hap @ AcmeSpeedShop....never done any historic racing but think a well sorted out MGB GT might be fun....got a friend in Hattiesburg, MS who has one - a serious one!

I’ve been told that the alloy flywheel isn’t the best choice for a street car. The trade off with the lighter flywheel is that it can affect the idle stability. But on the upside it really makes for a quick & high revving engine.

I'm hoping that if I ballance it with the bottom end components it'll help with the idle.

Tony, I used to vintage race, and just picked up a highly modified Fiat 850 to start doing it again.
Not that my H Prod Bugeye or the H Prod '62 Sprite isn't eligible.
It's a lot of fun, but, as in any form of racing, can get pricey very quickly.

Hmmm...went out to my MG Graveyard a bit ago (cold & windy though) & stood under the shed that houses my 2 MGA coupes - not enough there to turn them into a decent street car but they could be turned into a historic racer!.....hmmmm

Wow, that silver one is really something! Aerog, are those your photos? Mind if I steal that one for my web site? Credits of course.

Sure, no problem. I wish I had the data on the silver one. As I recall the information said something about it being either an original or a replica of a race car built for, or used at LeMans.

I redid all my pictures from the MGCC meet at Silverstone recently, they're up at https://www.aerog.com/ss01

Thanks! Hey, if you want a link, PM me with the address. Otherwise I'll just put the name from the photo copyright. Hopefully it's yours!

I love that MGA in Scott's picture. The original MGA LeMans roadsters were all-aluminum. My first street-legal car was an MGA.

Tony; if you need any more encouragement with your Coupe', here's an MGA in my area that is one of the actual team cars that BMC ran at Sebring.
I've seen this car in person and it is neat!

Also, here's a picture of the first MGA Coupe' to race at LeMans (it's the green-ish car next to the MGA roadster, with EX210 on the nose). Not the best picture, but you can see that the nose was quite different on these Lemans cars.

Ohhhh, man, you didn't have to do that..........hehehehe

Scott - we need to talk anyway!

That's durn' near priceless, Steve! The "Healey like" colour scheme is intriguing. Any time/date specifics on that image?
