Hillclimb Tiger

I can see why a Tiger would do well - big, torquey motor in a relatively light car but I wonder why the Corvairs did so well. I started to think it could be weight over the driving wheels (ie engine) but then it beat a couple Porsche 911s easily. Any ideas?

Better drivers maybe? Interesting that there is about 25 seconds from fastest to slowest.

I assume there are classes also and not just overall standings? Please let us know as soon as pictures are available. Fun looking at the ones from previous years.

Re: Hillclimb Tiger by Unser

Many moon back, 240 or so, one of the Unsers, Bobby as I recall, drove a Tiger at the Pikes Peak climb. His comments were along the lines of "most ill handling bastard I've ever driven". As a then current SCCA GT2 Tiger driver, my comments wer "H.... S...". Mine is 52%-48% and as neutral as one can get. Point and drive with gas pedal.

In reference to the oint made by 78z regarding the Corvairs; some very quick ones were prepared by Don Yenko in the 60's, he called them "Stingers" (because of the sting in the tail?). They are low and wide and have decent suspension, but then a 911 is a 911!
Simon.

Carl Matuszek, the photoographer who took the original Tiger photo above has kindly informed me that the picture link above has been removed and replaced with two other recent shots of the Tiger at the Duryea and Pagoda hillclimb this year....here they are:
