Friends;..I have a 1500 Spitfire & mounted a 3rd brake light in the center of my luggage rack now my left stop light is dimmer than the right light.I ran the hot wire down to the left side stop light wire & parallel spliced it.I had a suggestion to connect the hot wire upstream before it Y's out to the brake lights.Any suggestions?I get the brighter lights on the high mount & the right side. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/lol.gif

What sort of bulb do you have in the high-mount lamp unit? I can't think of any reason why adding one more bulb would "tax" any part of the circuit, especially since you've drawn power for the extra lamp on the side "closer to the source" as it were. Perhaps it is coincidence and you've somehow disturbed the ground on the LH stop lamp? Those Spitfire rear lamps can be fussy; I'd almost be willing to bet that a minute or two with some fine abrasive paper could clean up any and all contacts...and you'll be fine again.
 
You are suffering from a weak ground at the tail lamp. I highly recomend a contact cleaner spray to clean and protect each of the connecters in LBC's . In tough cases you can add a ground wire to the circut(when the rust bug hits)

Poor ground would also be my first thought, but... are you sure the lamps were of equal brightness before the addition of the 3rd brake light?

I'm not familiar with Spit tailights but if the brake light is one half of a 2-filament bulb it matters which way that bulb is wired (i.e. one filament is brighter than the other). If it is it's own bulb then ignore this comment and work on getting a better ground.
 
Brother how stupid am i.i should have thought about Lucas grounding problems.Good advice i'll check the grounds back their.Before i hooked it up the stop lights were the same brightness.Also someone said make sure the bulb in the high mount is a single filement.,could that make a difference?.When the lights on though it really does light up the night,SUV's or any other rig can't miss it. I was having tail light frustrations of my own - brake lights didn't work, turn signals and tail lights did; fixed brake lights, tails lights went out; fixed tail lights, tun signals went out, etc. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cryin.gif

I ended up running a new ground wire from each tail light socket and so far, so good.
 
Eureka!!THATS IT!(it) I should be grounded! Its amazing how friendly Triumph are. 25 deg & snow,i'm in by the fire,when i should be out working on my T.
 
Maybe THAT was the problem! It was too darn COLD for all those little electrons to get out!!! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/lol.gif
Maybe they went on strike for warmer temperatures!!
