I am thinking of converting a set of older Cibies to HID. There is a local auto shop selling HID conversions for about $300.00 from Pilot One
Has anyone else converted their lighting to HID?
I susupect that there will be issues with the "throw" pattern of the lamps

Not on an LBC, but I have done this on a BMW, several in fact.
Glare is a huge issue unless you use the proper projector/eyeball.

You can't just buy a ballast and some D2S bulbs and wire it up.

I refrofitted bixenon headlight clusters into an E46 (330i) that was originally equipped with halogens. There was a bunch of wiring that needed to be sorted. The mechanics were pretty simple.

You want "projectors" or "eyeballs" from a BMW / VW / Lexus. Have a look at eBay.

The website posted will sell you bits that make LOTS of light, but it will not be focused or useable and you'll have glare issues.

An unfocused D2S bulb just makes too much output/noise.

I did a set of the H4 conversions. Other then the extra light which is great I don't like them. They project the light to close to the car and they flood the road instead of shooting a beam. I've had to turn mine upside down in order to get the light to project further down the road.

I still love the sealed beams where I can aim them where I like them to shine.

Good advice ^ I think I will leave well enough alone
Scott You are THE man! More great info for all to use! Thanks!

If you ever decide to do this, you MUST use a projector (eyeball).

FWIW, I have Cibie "e-codes" in my MGB - 80w lows/110w highs with Hella relays per beam. Bought them from Daniel Stern a couple of years ago - he's a well respected authority on automotive lighting. Also using an uprated alternator, wiring, grounds and AGM battery. They are bright, but don't even come close to HIDs.

I have a "thing" for headlights
