Hi there new Sprite owner

Kevin, this weather sure leaves a lot to be desired. I've got a 4 day weekend, and had hoped to go cruising myself.
Yes, the door jamb plate is just a piece of stamped metal. I can't remember if it's aluminum or steel.
Wherever you put your chassis plate, it's still safe! /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/grin.gif

The VIN plate is def. missing, I will check the other suspension area for the chassis number as well as look again at the door jamb.

One helpful tip on reading old VINs, take a piece of paper and a charcoal pencil and do a rubbing, a lot of times the numbers come out clearer than trying to read them through the same color of paint.

One other thing the dual brake circuit what is that? I also noticed the carbs are different. Bear with me on this, I am a small block chevy kind of girl and this British stuff is a little different!

Wonder why someone would put a smaller motor in the car? I would always go bigger not smaller /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smile.gif

Rachel, the brakes have been upgraded so the front and rear each have their own dedicated braking system. If you lose one end, you still have brakes to stop. That became standard equipment about 1968. A worthy addition, in my opinion.
If it still has the carb from the picture I looked at, it's a Weber DCOE series, probably a DCOE 40. Originally it had a pair of SU HS2's on it. The Weber will work OK.
As to the engine swap, maybe that 948 is all someone had to work with after destroying the original. Who knows?
Jeff

The Carb looks like a nice 40DCOE side draft weber. i'm jealous

im jealous of the webber carb too....bummer on the 948 though. Other than that it looks like a very clean car. perhaps it needs a supercharged 1380?
