Hi,

my name is Rob, I live in the UK. I have a significant birthday soon (65) so I have bought myself a project a 1973 Triumph Spitfire 1300. I used to be a Motor Vehicle Technician (Mechanic) and served my apprenticeship at a BMC/Leyland dealership. So working on the Spitfire brings back a lot of memories.I have joined the group as a form of reference, but also to help anyone out, if I can.

Hello Rob

Welcome to the forum.

Congratulations on your upcoming Birthday.

You will find the Triumph section to be very active and you are sure to get plenty of help, tips and advice there for your Spitfire project. Is it a restoration or a driver?

Post some photos.

David

Rob!! We've been waiting for you! Glad you finally made it to British Car Forum! With your background as a dealership mechanic I suspect you will be a huge help to many folks here! Welcome welcome welcome!

Welcome aboard, Rob!

With your BMC/Leyland experience, you will be an asset for more than just the Triumph folks here for certain.

And be sure to meet us down the pub for a chin wag, too.

The main job was to re organise my garage to get the car in, which I managed. When the car arrived I started to dismantle it, the roof came off then the seats came out. This was not easy as the car appeared to have been left out in the rain and the seats were very rusty and seized up. After a lot of liberal spraying with WD40 and the use of ratchets, sockets and mole grips out they came. Next old carpets out and attack the floor with a wire brush to find the holes, luckily not too many.

I have done a lot of research, but any tips more than welcome. I have found a site that sells foam and cuts it to size, so I hope to replace the foam myself along with a lot of the other trim. I have ordered a "hammer and dolly" set to try and remove a large dent in the bonnet, so wish me luck.
