Back in 1977 or 78, I went with a buddy to check out 57 TR3 he found for sale; we looked it over and he bought it. A couple of months later, he got a lead on a TR6 up in Kansas that somebody needed to sell. But he just broke open the piggy bank to buy the 3. He had the low-mileage-TR6 mojo pretty bad, so.... Well ya gotta help a brother car-nut out, right? So I got the TR3 and he got the TR6 and all was right with the world.
It's a red 57 TR3, black interior, wire wheels, and electric OD. It had a tonneau cover, no top and no heater. It's an early 57 (around 13300 if I remember right)
Narrow mouth grill, no exterior door handles or boot handle.
In 1982, I decided to go back to college so I put my the car in a storage shed and went back to get my degree. Oh, wait... I got parts. Saw an ad in the paper, (yep, I'm old) for Triumph parts so I called to see what he had. Well, He wasn't really sure. This guys son used to buy and sell and race Triumphs TR3's and 4's. The son had moved away some years back and had left some stuff in this barn. This was a Thursday night; made arrangements to go out Friday after work. Turns out he was selling a quarter of his section of land on the edge of town and the developer who was going to build a sub-division was putting in a pipeline for a water main on Monday. Right thru this barn! There were boxes of stuff stashed around, a door here, a fender liner there, a transmission case. He had a heater core. He made me a deal for more money than I had, but said could take it all if I wanted it, because he'd rather see me take it than watch a bulldozer flatten it. So I some how managed to scrape together enough money and we hauled a packed-full pickup truck of Triumph stuff and barn dust out of there.
After college, I kept moving further and further away from it. OKC, then Dallas, then met a girl from Houston., she had kids, etc., etc., etc. The car suffered from all that loneliness. Eventually, got the car and all it's stuff trailered to Houston. Still had family stuff happening I couldn't really work on it, but I could go out into the garage and stare at it. LOL.
So family's all grown and/or gone their own way; me and the 3 moved back to OK and I got it running (and stopping.. kinda) a couple of years ago, but we've had some family and health issues the past couple of years. But I've been gathering parts when I found good sales; I'm looking to start work again when I get a few other (higher priority) projects completed. So I'm gathering information on improvements, repairs, and swaps. And that's what's brought me here!
I found a photo on my phone so I'll post that. The car looks ok from 60 feet or so. BTW, the steelies and hub caps came out of that barn stash I lucked into.
