With a few folks taking impressive road trips, mine is not: trip from Pittsburgh to Lancaster, where my wife had some business.
I took the girls to the AACA museum in Hershey. Fantastic place!! When I walked in, the awesome smell of rubber and oil hit me, and I knew it was going to be good. And it was. Three Tuckers, plus a bunch of Tucker prototypes. A wonderful selection of old busses that take me down memory lane of the Chicago CTA. Corvettes. And on. Dominantly American iron, an Austin Healey cutaway mounted on the wall, some German, Japanese and Italian scooters and motorcycles.
With the girls aged three and five, they enjoyed the shiny cars (favorites the Tucker and an El Camino), but the museum also has a huge interactive Lionel train display that we spent a long time with. And in the cafeteria (ie vending machines), they have a Crosley Hotshot that kids can sit in, and a large selection of Brio trains to play with. Point being, great museum and fun for all.
Highly recommended. And it is now “affiliated” with the Smithsonian, which hopefully speaks good for the financial future...?? I was surprised how few visitors were at the museum, which of course makes it nice, but it was a Saturday. (We also spent some time at the nearby Hershey Chocolate store - which was packed with folks. I am surprised that not more go to the AACA.)
