Heritage apparently has three types of carpet, with varying prices, of course. Do any of you with experience in this area have some good advice regarding a preference?

Go here:

https://www.heritagetrim.com/

Click on "About Our Materials" on the left

Scroll down through the carpet styles

Original Healeys were Karvel. A short nap cut pile synthetic blend.

They have three other types as shown.

The choice is if you want to be completely original or go for something more plush. I personally would go with original type.

Heritage materials are top notch but expensive. Their installed seat coverings are top of the line, second to none.

Dave G. was formerly employed by Heritage & now has his own very high quality shop. It might be good to check him out also.

Thanks, Dave. I had reviewed the Heritage web information, but was not able really to make value or cost/benefit judgments based on that info. The only thing about pure wool that gets to me, in addition to the cost, is the electifying experience one gets when exiting an auto on one of our cool, dry days. Wool carpet would make that ever so much more enjoyable.

Cutlass,
Give Duncan a call at Heritage. He will send samples (type and color) to you for inspection before ordering. As Dave said, they are not inexpensive but the quality is excellent and service is great too. You usually will need to leave a message and Duncan will return the call.

Thanks, Lin. The samples are on the way. I guess what I'm seeking is personal opinions about preference. Certainly the final decision is mine, but I'd be silly not to seek the advice of the collective wisdom of the denziens of these electronic pathways.

Give Dave at Phoenix an opportunity to send you a sample and quote, too. No use in not exploring all of your options.

I have purchased three carpet sets from Heritage and am very happy with all of them. The first two were wool and the carpet is of excelelnt quality. You have the most color choice this way. You can definitely tell the difference between theirs and competitors at car shows. It is the correct pile height as well. It does shed a bit though where it wears, such as the foot wells and front floor area. The last one I bought is a carvel for the bn2 and it looks very good as well. It will be quite some time until I get to install it though. Everything is cut oversize so you can trim it to fit your particular car.

Now, if I were doing a Healey for my 8 year old she'd be ALL over that!

orange shag????

Can't you just see it at the local car show?

I've got all of the instruments hanging under where the dash goes, the doors apart, all the interior panels laying around it, and it was 65 degrees outside today. I did get to drive the minivan to home depot.....

I'm just fitting my carpet set that i got from AH Spares, tell me should the Jute (or closed cell foam that you suggested) go under everywhere where the carpet goes ? i know it goes under the mats in the main footwell/seat area but am not sure about the rest.

Rob

The "jute" is loose laid on the flat portions of the floors, loose carpet over the jute is retained with snaps, clearance holes in the jute for the carpet snaps screwed to the floor.

Vertical surfaces & outer sill edges, jute glued to interior metal, carpet glued to jute.

Rear of transmission bulkhead, jute glued to metal, carpet glued to jute. Carpet wrapped around bulkhead edges to form a seal between bulkhead panel & inner footwell vertical flanges. Also wrapped over top bulkhead flange.

Transmission tunnel, jute glued to overlaying carpet with carpet snapped to tunnel, same as flat floors.

Rich Chrysler has a couple of good how to articles on the net. Here is one:

I deviated from "concours correct" & covered all interior surfaces with two layers of "Dynamat Xtreme" which were painted body color. Then the jute or foam & carpet as above.
