Thanks again to Rut, I got a mechanical gauge. It was sticking badly and I tried a lot of things putting it in and taking it out of the car. I figured it couldn't be that complex so I opened it up to make sure it was clean. Kudo's to whomever calibrates these because with no screws it must be wire bending time.
They really are simple as you can see. This one had the rubber pads that hold clearance between the gauge markings and the cover plate melted away from the years. I stole the best ones from my electrical gauge. In the end Rut was right. I had to really keep loosening the small screws that hold the final metal cover on and backing off the cover so the glass is loose but the gauge no longer sticks. I did use some watch maker oil on the pivot points of the needle which did nothing. Probably brand new standoff rubber would work but who know where to source those.
The needle had yellowed from age. A small brush and some white paint brought it back to life. Can't restore the lb numbers but from a distance its ok.
