Here's a first for me...

Had some random commuter ask me at a stop light if I was willing to sell my car... In the 2 years that I've had my MGB, I've had random people ask about it, stop me in parking lots to talk about it, tell me about one of their family members having one, and even want to tell me about them having one "a long time ago". But today was the first time I've ever had someone just ask to buy it out of the blue.

Kind of puts me car into a new light... never drove a car in the past that anybody would *want* enough to ask if I'm selling at a stop light. It was kind of an up lifter after a drawn out day at the office. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

I know I've seen people on these boards posting about random MGs showing up in their drive-ways and random people asking if ya'll are buying more MGs. It kind of made me think that our LBCs aren't very wanted in general. Since I don't recall ever seeing someone posting about random people offering to buy one of our LBCs, I felt I just had to share. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Nunyas, it does give one a rush of pride doesn't it. Last year at a small local car show a guy walked up to me and offered $7k for lizzie. Before I could get a work out, my wife told him NO! Kinda gives a person the warm fuzzies. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/hammer.gif

When I first got mine running, I went to the gas station to fill up the tank. Some guys in a BIG 4x4 drove up from the road, and asked how much I wanted for it.

Since then, a guy that works at Advance Auto Parts has asked me about selling it twice... I told him to make me an offer. Haven't gotten an offer yet.

People are always asking if any of my cars are for sale...set an outlandish price - they'll either take you up on it or not....if they do, buy 2 MG's!

Oh, my entire collection is available for $250,000! hehehehe

Your collection is worth WAY more than that Tony!

I get it all the time actually. Some people seem genuinely fond of the car and others seem like sleazy used car salesmen. But it still always makes me feel good that others enjoy my cars as much as I do.

Next time someone offers to buy your car, just double what it's worth and maybe you'll get lucky and make a sale! I'm going for $25K for my GT. Some day a rich guy might just HAVE to have it. Then I can replace it with an MG Motorsport MGC GTS!

I got a lot of "nice car"s at gas stations, and plenty of thumbs up, but the only offer I ever got was when I was trying to sell my TR4. A guy came to look at it, and next to it in the garage was my newly aquired TR2 project. the man kinda hemmed and hawed about the 4, but instantly offered to double what I had just paid for the 2.(actually was offered more than I was asking for the 4 for the 2)Even though it's a rolling body and boxes of parts, as opposed to the TR4 driver.
That's when I felt better about my decision to sell the 4 to afford the 2 project.
Back on MGs (sorry for the 'rumphy speech) My first "driver" LBC was a 77 BRG MGB that was in need of help. It diden't sit in the front yard long before it was snatched. It sold a LOT faster than the TR4. I think MGBs have a broader appeal than Triumphs (at least the TR4 Triumphs)
Noone has offered me any freebies yet, but I'd gladly give any a good home if offered. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

ah well, if I had my "business cap" on I prolly would have told'm $10K (the car will never sell for that much in its current condition) even though it's worth maybe $2.5K at best. Given the condition of the interior I think I'd be lucky to get $1.5k for it.

For me to sell the car, I think I'd have to get enough to buy a MGC, or a '67 to '73 B (with a top that'll keep the rain out) that's in drivable condition.

at anyrate, it certainly made for an interesting drive home... /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

It's probably different out there, but here in the rust belt, a driveable MGB with NO rust in the rockers and floorboards easily goes for $6500 or more. no matter how tatty the details.

eh... no rust in the floorboards... but I did pop a cancerous boil on the passenger dog leg the other day /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cryin.gif

I guess I'm glad it didn't shoot puss all over me when I did that.

/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/pukeface.gifThanks for sharing /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/lol.gif

I had more than a few offers on mine while it was a non runner. Had to do some serious fighting to keep the car as my parents would have loved to had the garage space again and I had nowhere to store it.

Since it's been finished its gotten a lot of compliments at stoplights but no offers. Not that it matters as it's not for sale at any price. Well any price below 6 digets. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

C'mon Stew, you'd take $50,000 if someone offered cash!

/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/lol.gif funny you say 6 digits... when I mentioned it to my roomies one of them said I should have told the guy $100k... heh

You guys think it is nuts having people wanting to buy your MG's when you are out in them.....

You should see what it is like driving a TR7 !!!!

It is hard to explain. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

I'll explain...
"Is that a fiat x1/9?"
"my friend in highschool had a fiero just like that"
"Do you need a jump?"
"are you ever going to drive that or just keep sitting in it every day making Vroom noises"

/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/devilgrin.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/devilgrin.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/devilgrin.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/devilgrin.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/devilgrin.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/devilgrin.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/devilgrin.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I'm just kidding... I almost bought a X1/9 one time. And I used to lust after 1988 Fiero GT's.

I'd take a TR-2/3/4/6. or 8 though! And maybe a 7 too.

And don't you just hate the "Looking foe MG,Triumph......"
ads in the paper?
These are usually from speculators, hoping they'll find
someone to sell theirs cheap.I hate those ads.
Anybody else see them?

- Doug

There was an ad in a local trader paper asking to buy "any and all MG parts, parts cars, et cetera. No reasonable price refused." I paid little attention to it; next day, I go to church and see one of my neighbors. He hands me a copy of said trader paper with that ad circled.

He says that I should sell the car while its still running and I can get a decent price out of it. Ummmm...no...I've seen a handful of parts cars around here...and mine is not one of them.
