OK. So I bought my 1979 MG Midget about a year ago and all I've managed to do so far is take it apart... I am new to the forum, and plan on using everyone's expertise ALOT. I ordered an Optima Battery and got a cover (I don't have a top on right now. First line of business... I'm having a hard time getting the windhshield on. It came with only one side of the windshield bolted down. Were the windshields handmade? It doesn't appear to be bent, but I know that the windshield frame is not the stock one. Any advice? Also...I know of a few places, but can you guys recommend sources for whatever part I may possibly need into getting her on the road? Thanks for the help, and you'll be hearing from me soon...

Welcome aboard sharpish!

As far as windshields, I think jerryrosa is the guy you need to talk to here.

I do believe he went through a dozen or so.

Hi Ian, and welcome!
The windshield can be a little sketchy. It may take a little gentle persuasion (or tough love - whichever you prefer to call it) to get it in place properly. I don't believe the glass was handmade, but I'm not positive. Someone here knows better than I, I'm sure.
As for parts, there a a few really good places. Moss Motors sets the bar, I think. (www.mossmotors.com) There's also Victoria British (www.victoriabritish.com), British Racing Green (www.brgparts.com) - with whom I've had no personal experience, but haven't heard any complaints - and of course, for certain parts, eBay.
Be careful tightening down the windshield when you do - my stepfather watched a friend crack his windshield overtightening it.
Again, welcome, and good luck with the new toy! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

I went through Moss Motors for what I ordered. They seem like a good source. What was the original tire size on a '79 Midget?
