There was a Triumph at the English Motoring Conclave that caused some discussion among the Triumph owners. It was as follows:
Herald front clip (single headlites, chrome eyebrows).
6 cylinder engine, Herald and Sports 6 emblem on trunk.
Herald bumpers. White rubber was gone, mounting flanges pounded flat and sort of smoothed and painted red. Was there such a vehicle, or is this just something that was cobbled together?
What does Andy Mace say?
Bruce in Colorado, owner of a real Herald.

Kinda sounds like a bit of a cobjob to me!? The only way to be relatively sure of what it is (or was) would be to check the commission number and body number.

It's virtually no problem to fit the six under a earlier Herald bonnet. Chances are that this was originally a Sports 6 that, some time ago, suffered a front end crash serious enough to destroy the original bonnet, bumpers, valance and crosstube.

Again, assuming it was a Sports 6 originally, there's not much else that would ID the car as such. Assuming anything that hadn't been damaged was still relatively original, it would have wood cappings atop the insides of the doors, and the speedometer would go up to 100 instead of the 90mph of a Herald's speedo.

Was that "bumper" treatment found front and rear? For a long, long time, new white rubber bumpers were virtually unavailable. Meanwhile, if it had the anodized, ribbed bumper strips of a Sports 6, those were easily damaged and/or scuffed, and are not available new (except for NOS pieces that turn up every so often). So that could've been a practical measure...or someone's idea of mild customizing.

Anyone got photos of the car? That might help me guess what's what here; again, numbers would really help. (For that matter, an engine number would help, too, to determine if it's even a 1600 "Sports 6" engine...or just a Herald with a GT6 engine stuffed in!

What kind of carbs did it have. Didn't the Vitesse have down drafts. Wayne
