HELP wire wheel hub removal

74 midge, wire wheels, trying to remove the hub from the axle, we have new axles. my books dont seem very clear on how they are attached. Do they just slide off? with a BFH? any tricks advice ideas? Kinda in the middle of this one right now and need to get it rolling again.

Re: HELP wire wheel hub removal

GOT IT. they appear to be press fit on. used a pipe longer than the axle and with an ID greater than the axle to pound them off. and a sledge hammer and a aluminium plate on the floor and an aluminium drift to seat the new ones to 22.125 from the face of the flange.

I'm also planning to do the same soon, and was wondering the same thing. So they're just pressed on. Sounds like it requires quite a bit of force to get them off.

yes it did, i slid the axle into the pipe, and slammed the pipe on the concrete floor, many times to get them off.
