help: trick to snap and unsnap soft top ?

I just bought a TR 3 A .
I am having so much difficulty snapping on and taking off the snaps of the soft top roof.
You need fingers of steel. I am not superman.
Is there a trick to this??
(Of course I leave it down all the time, but it's starting to rain.)
Cheers, Penni

Yes, there are two tricks. Notice how the bows have a joint about 6" away from where they join the body. The first trick is to leave that joint partially folded while you install the snaps, then straighten it out with the top already snapped into place. Watch your fingers, as it's easy to get pinched.

The other trick is to disconnect the rearmost bow from the webbing, so you can leave it folded forward while completing the top installation. Then you can push it back while sitting in the driver's seat to bring the top snug. If the weather is cold, it probably won't go all the way into place until after you've driven for a bit and the top has warmed in the sun. So just push it back a bit more whenever the top becomes loose. At least in my experience (long ago), it will stay in place wherever it brings the top snug.

In both cases, you can reverse the process when removing the top (although it generally comes off much easier than it went on).

Tenax or lift a dot fasteners. Which ones?

Of course on a 3A you get to do both. Fortunately Randall's technnique gets you enough slack that each style is pretty easy to get onto its peg.

Sun? In San Francisco?

Wasnt sure what she was asking. If snaps were hanging up or if top is to tight. Tenax can jam up,sometimes requiring those mentioned, fingers of steel,ya know. Of course.

Hey, Penni, your car looks great; of course, it looks very much llike mine, down to the white top and side curtains. I do have steel wheels, though.

How did you acquire your '3?

Penni,
Welcome to the BCF. I had not seen your post here before. I was looking at your wonderful photography here as well as your website. Your TR3A is beautiful. Enjoy it and your Vespa.

I too used to be a photographer, but not in the creative fields you are in, I did school portrait photography for 32 years, and I too have a TR3 and a Vespa.

Hey Geo,

They are in the members photos by Penni, I see about 3 shots of the car but I'm not sure either what is meant by photography and website???

Anthony

I know this is random but I just made member status with that last post, haha....I don't know why that excites me but it does

Congrats Anthony. You'll be in Doc territory in no time
