Refer to CV84 and CV87 and the screw CV88.

I managed to strip the hole and break away some of the
"shelf" area that the screw CV88 screws into, which is
the rear overdrive casing.

Anybody have any ideas on how to repair this blunder?
It would be nice not to have to remove the whole tranny.
Bad screw-up.....I know....another bad pun....again.
 
That bolt doesn't need to do much; it basically just holds the angle drive & cable to the OD housing. If the broken piece is available, I'd clean the area thoroughly and try to glue it back into position using JB Weld. Find a way to clamp it firmly and wait at least 24 hours for the JBW to cure. Then put a Helicoil or Keensert in the hole, and install the bolt only slightly tighter than finger-tight.

If that doesn't work, the only other course I see (short of pulling) would be to try to build up the area with weld. But that's risky as there are bearings nearby.

Yea, lots of carb cleaner, Berkable gum cutter, the piece if you can find it, jb weld, or some other structural epoxy. Not an insurmountable problem.

How big is the broken piece, if it's small, you may get away with just putting a helicoil in it.

This is not a structural component, so I wouldn't worry too much about how to make it really strong.
