help--radio wiring

Can anyone help with wiring a radio. I am trying to install a new JVC cd player. I have the yellow wire out of the harness going straight to the fuse box and the red wire coming out of the harness to a green wire just behind the dash where the hazard flasher switch is(doesn't appear to be attached to the switch). I did it this way because the PO had the previous player wired that way. I get all the lights, display etc.--it's getting power--but no sound.. And yes I checked the speakers and the wires to the speakers--they appear to be fine.
What am I doing wrong?
 
I'm stumped. If the unit powers up and speakers are connected, all should be well. Did you try both CD and radio? Antenna hooked up? Any trick switches/controls on the unit?
 
Yellow one should always have voltage, Stew. That's what holds the memory/programming in place. Power (switched thru iggy) for the red one and ground is black.

Some random thoughts:
Output to some other speakers to see if it could be an issue with what's in the car.

At the radio end, take a AA battery and momentarily touch each end with each speaker's two wires... should hear the speaker "gurgle" a bit. Indicates there's a speaker at the other end (not much help but left and right can be determined this way, too).

Low supply voltage from the "green wire". The radio is voltage sensitive and will not work if V+ is lower than 12V.

Brer Mickey mentioned buttons... the new units require an M.I.T. degree to set up. RTFM?

Good luck with it, if you find the issue let us know. This kinda stuff can make ya nuts.
 
Thanks for the help guys, you helped me figure it out. I just thought I had checked the speaker wires well enough. When I tested them before i was just thinking break in the wire, not short, didn't occur to me (dufus) that while I was testing-- it was still shorting it out. This time I completely disconnected the old wire from the deck and hooked up a test speaker--worked fine. So..it was a short in the speaker wire. I'll have new wires run and tunes by the weekend!
