GT6 Help on GT6 rear wheel bearings

Guys,

I am trying to replace the rear wheel bearings on my 69 GT6.

After much swearing and cursing, I was finally able to separate the rear hub from the vertical link, and am ready to replace the bearings. The work shop manual refers to a special tool to remove the outer bearing...an S 323 (I think), as well as a "churchill tool"...niether of which I have. Does anyone know an easy way of getting the bearing off without doing too much damage?
Also if anyone has any tips about getting them back on I would appreciate any input!
Thanks ahead of time!

There's a fella by the name of Bill Roope, wroope@aol.com, who makes a copy of the Churchill tool. I have one and it makes it very easy to separate the hub from the axle. It's my understanding that if a hydraulic press is used instead of the Churchill tool there is a very good chance of bending the axle.

Actually, its a very good chance of bending the hub, not the axle. Ask the man who knows from experience......

Get the correct tool - its worth the cost and effort. Removing the hub from the axle requires monster force. If you think it took a lot of grunting and swearing to remove the vertical link, then you'd better start training for Olympic level grunting and swearing for the hub removal. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

With the correct tool, you can apply force evenly and get it to separate. I found that alternate applications of heat and force eventually worked. Oh, and some extra creative swearing as well..... /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/devilgrin.gif

I have done plenty of creative swearing...I suprised myself.

I'll get a churchill tool!!!

Thanks
