Help needed for windshield replacement BN7

My windshield cracked spontaneously. I have ordered a replacement from Moss and have removed the top of the window frame, but need some advice from someone who has done this before on this model 1960 BN7. I guess the BT7 and maybe the 100-6 have the same frame. Do I have to remove the whole windshield or just remove the screws on the inside of each pillar? I ordered new rubber for inside surrounding glass.
 
Hey Tim,
You can simply remove the 4 screws on each side of the windshield post and remove the entire windshield frame and glass as a unit. Pretty easy other than getting that screw near the dash pad. I have a 59 BN6 and actually just had the assembly off last weekend to put in a new tonneau snap post.

I've done mine, and yours is the same. My recommendation is to remove the pillars from the body, as it would be a shame to strip any of those threads after you've worked so hard on the windshield frame and glass (especially those two at the bottom). And trust me, you will work hard...

Thanks, Randy. The info on the rubber strips is very helpful. One of the photos mentioned corner brackets and Moss listed them and I ordered them. I don't see them in your photos, but I see the holes for the tiny screws that hold the corners together. Thanks again.

I have taken the whole windshield with posts off several times so that is no big deal and I see how it will make access to the bottom two pillar screws a lot easier. Thanks for the advice.

Don't be too quick to throw out your OEM corner brackets. When I replaced the windshield on my BN7, I ordered the Moss brackets with screws and had to return both of them. The hole spacing was incorrect - too far away from the inside corner preventing the chrome surround miter from closing. The small screws were too long.

I sent Moss a detailed drawing of the correct part(s), but I never followed up to see of they implemented the change.

I did some serious WHACKING with a rawhide mallet to get the frame "closed up" at the corners, but it wasn't the brackets (in my case) as a test fit without the glass was good.

I used the standard (stable) rubber seal for the glass to frame. Butyl rubber might yield a more water-tight seal, but you'd probably destroy the frame if you had to replace the glass again. Ultra-sonic methods of removal may be used, but not commonly in the DIY garage.
