help me on a possible 59 bugeye 20 years in a barn

i have been looking for a old british car for quite some time and have tracked down a 59 bugeye that two brothers have owned for 20 years. the car has had its body and paint work done and needs to be reassembled and run. the car is said to be 99% complete but after 20 years will be missing some parts im sure. it is said to have its original motor and trans in good working order. this is a project car and i am aware of what goes into restoring a old sports car as i have restored a several cars porsche pre 66 vws mgs and a couple spitfires. what i was wondering from you folks that own these cars is when i go have a look at this car what are the hard to find parts that if missing will help me come up with a value for the car. another thing would be any pron rust areas i should check with a magnet to look for poor or hidden body work.

i am fairly certain after talking with the owner who has been a euro car mechanic for 35 years and has come to the conclusion he just wont finish it as he has old bmws and volvos that he says come first that the car is in pretty good shape but just a basket case.

so any info on what to look for would be great.

cheers ed

If you post this on the Spridget forum you will get lots of responses. The biggest problem with the bugeyes is rust, particularly if it is in the area of the rear spring perches. Rust may also be in the 'A' pillar in front of the doors, and in the rear quarter behind the tire. Also have a look at the floor pans. The front bonnet is a one-piece unit and could be trouble if it's out of shape or rusty. Most parts are available. The car is really simple and a blast to drive.
