Hi all.

It has been a busy couple weeks here regarding the 74.5 GT resurection. I was finally (almost satisfied) with how the bodywork ended up and it was time for the highbuild primer. To refresh.. This is what it looked like as I was taking it apart:

And this is what I have now:

Now, the delema... I have these:

One for each of these:

We brought the '71 home yesterday from winter storage. It was sure nice to have it back on the road after almost 6 months. It ran like a charm the 100km or so as well. So... I am torn between leaving the GT for a few weeks and pulling the lump and 4 speed out of the '71, cleaning up the engine bay, replacing with the OD and hope nothing goes wrong to kill our short driving season.. or.. Drive the '71 for the summer with the current 4 sp Tranny in it, work on the GT and keep the roadster home next winter and do the swap then. What are the odds that everything will go smoothly with the swap? The OD transmission has been tested and internals replaced. It is a good working transmission, so that isn't an issue. Just worried about "Other" factors.
Pouring rain again today, so I would like to start on the '71 or get back at the GT.

Opinions please!!!!

Thanks

Paul

Drive now. Swap in the winter.

I'd swap it but thats what I'm going to do as soon as I get my od from tony. Od makes life so much nicer and I really miss it from the short time I got to drive my 75 after swaping in an od transmission.

Oh BOTHER!!

I go with Bruce:

DRIVE!!!

Winter is for projects. "Summer" is for DRIVING!!!! :smirk:

Going to take any long trips? An OD really is nice on the road. If you are confident that you can change it out in a weekend, have the weekend, and support of friends and or a good mechanic if you can't figure it out? You might make a list to make sure it happens in a weekend, get some help so it does happen in one weekend. Find the weekend that all the stars align. You'll never be sorry. If not, don't. Good luck!!!!

Well. My Wife and I sat down and looked at the next few weekends. I start working weekends for the next three weeks and she is tied up with work stuff for the next two, so the car would rarely be driven anyway, so... Got everything dissconnected last night and I am just heading out to the garage now to pull the lump. Hopefully all will go smoothly and it will be ready when needed. Figures though, that today is 26c and not a cloud in the sky.. :frown: But I have to work tonight anyway.

You work too much to have the "leisure" time necessary for two mechanical mistresses beyond the wife.
