Help Identify BJ8 rear mufflers

Good day all. I recently came into possession of two mufflers that I was told were for a 68' AH. They are brand new and are marked "HARMO" SU1057, also MTP 1162. They do appear to be for a BJ8 but the ends aren't tapered. The fellow really didn't know for sure but thought they may also be for a TR?
Any thoughts?

Those look similar in design to what JC Whitney used to sell for the BJ8. My dad used to get stuff from them back inna' 70's. As far as brand, I can't help.

? That's news to me. I've always seen duel all the way back. Two mufflers and two resonators. For a total of 4 thingies that aren't just pipes

I was assuming we were talking about the resonator or second muffler since the pictures show the two right angle bends. Yes there are two mufflers in total ont he BJ8

yep I agree with Greg, there should be 2 front boxes and 2 rear that go across the boot / tail for the bj8, it has an extra hanger from the boot floor, the rear pipes exit on the right hand side.
I have just gone for a double s sports exhaust for mine that looses the rear boxes, so mine will be straight thru and come out on the left side like earlier cars, hopefully should sound good and also help with the rear clearance.

The back boxes could be for a bj8, lengths and angles look about right (with the slight upturn on rear exit pipe)for a bj8

BJ8 should have two pipes into and out of one muffler

Actually, you are incorrect. All BJ8s had 2 separate resonators at the back.

Johnny-

The black, short resonator is the back (outside) resonator that connects to the left silencer, and the grey resonator is the forward (inside) resonator that connects to the right silencer.

If you swap them around in the picture you will notice that the exhaust tips will roughly line up equal with each other.

The bevel cut on the end of the pipes is not original for BJ8s, it is usually just either cut by the owner or a chrome bevel tip put on to dress it up.

Only if you go for the stock setup Steve. In the interest of full disclosure, I'm with Andy and deleted two rear resonators. I like the slightly rawer...er sound.

Thanks Alan, I think you're right. I was concerned about the exit pipes not being angle cut. If you put them together like you said, the silencers line up perfectly.
Thanks to all who responded.

Greg,
Concerning the elimination of the rear resonators, I am toying with dumping the exhaust out in front of the rear wheel vice running the pipes to the back. Do you or any one else know if that would be a problem?

Thanks,

Stephen

Garage pad poured. Waiting for my son to begin putting up the stick frame...

Stephen,
Mine exits on the driver's side behind the rear wheel. It looks like it belongs there.
... The down side for some.... It is a little louder that way !

Hi Stephen,
My exhaust exits all the way to the back of the car, so it isn't bad for me. Some people have not been happy with the side exhaust because it is too loud, mostly those people have left hand drive cars. Of course, the type of muffler used would have an effect too. I'm running Magnaflow mufflers, which have less restriction, thus more volume. My best suggestion is to listen to one first before you go to the trouble. Maybe someone at a car show would fire their side exhaust up for you.

Ed and Greg,

Thanks for the input. I'll have plenty of time to listen to several set-ups as we need to finish the garage before doing any mechanical, electrical, etc. to the just painted Healey
