Help for an MG friend!

Sorry, I have a '61 TR3 but my neighbor friend up the street has recently purchased a '71 MG and is having difficulty. The car has been beautifully restored and delivered just this year. The problem is that after the car has been warmed up and driven, it won't start again until it cools down. I have never had a problem with vapor lock with my SU's...I want to help but have never heard of this problem in a LBC. Please advise...

Thanks in advance!

It is just like any other car. Does the engine spin when you turn the key? If yes, does it have sparks? I usually check the coil lead forst, and then check at the plugs. (Rotor problems are not uncommon). If no spark, start there. If it has spark, then check out the fuel system. Does it still have HIF carbs, or has it been retrofitted with earlier SUs or a Weber? Does it have the correct fuel pump? Check fuel pump volume and pressure. What kind of fuel is he using? Was the fuel tank replaced or sealed during the resto? If not, change the filter....Is the heat shield fitted? It has to have fuel, fire and motion to run. Find out which one is missing and get back to us.

Spark, clean fuel, yes. All parts are stock and correct for this car. I am concerned about a heat shield though. None attached. I checked Moss and found that indeed there is supposed to be one. The fuel must be boiling in the line causing vapor lock. Thanks for the check list. I will place a temporary shield on and see how that works.
