Help!!! Austin Healey 100-6 engine problem

Ok, I had my head rebuilt with new guides and valves and ever since I have been having oil coming out the exhaust when the engine gets hot (the exhaust flex hose smokes like it is getting saturated in oil). Below are a couple symptoms...

-I thought it could have been flooding the guides with oil so I rebuilt the rocker shaft which did have signs of wear. Problem still exists after the rocker shaft rebuild.
-I fitted valve guide seals, and still no help
-oil is coming from the rear exhaust only, rake of the engine?
-once the engine is hot and shut down, when I restart the engine there is a lot of white smoke for a while.
-I noticed some oil at the rear of the engine coming from around the head gasket, I verified it was not coming from the rocker cover.
-I am using 10w-30 break in oil after rebuilding the engine, is this too thin and possibly causing my issue?

I am very frustrated with this issue and don't know what else to try...

Thanks,

Chad

Hi Chad, I've seen the Healey head gasket leak at the rear of the engine. It also could be leaking on the left rear side, under the carbs. This would throw oil on the exhaust flex pipes if sever enough.
I would wipe up the oil that is on the back surface of the head and probably the bell housing. Do it from the top side and from under the car to get as much as you can. Use a wax and grease remover so that it is pretty clean that way the smallest amount can be detected easily. Take the car for a ride for a half hour to an hour. Come back and stick your hand on the back mating surface of the head and block and see if more oil has appeared. I suspect the head gasket is leaking back there. White smoke coming out the exhaust is usually a sign of coolant leaking into the cylinders. Sounds like a head gasket to me. First thing I would do is retorque the head bolts to see if this stops it.
It has been my experience that break-in oil is only run for a short time. Usually around 100 miles or so. After that go to your normal oil spec. Dave.
