Help and Advice needed for post pressure washing debacle

Decided to pressure wash Bugsy in prep for painting soon. Proceeded to use Gunk engine degreaser in the engine compartment as well as in cockpit. Let’s just say Bugsy’s old 948 lubricated lots of things very well. Pressure washer loosened up lots of grease and grime and oil and deposited it all over my primer. And in the cockpit compartment everything every surface is covered with oil.

Help is now needed.Bugsy is sitting in the sun to dry out and advice is needed on cleaning things up prior to paint. The pressure washer seemed like such an easy way to clean things up. The post cleanup will take days. Will be trying straight Dawn detergent to fusible grease in exterior paint. Any other suggestions?

Acrli-Clean is an excellent pre-paint metal prep and cleaner and I would definitely use it before painting. But to clean up the oil, I would start with the Dawn. Don't use it straight though as detergent depends on the water to carry away the gunk.

Nope lots and lots of water helped get things cleaned up. Amazing how all the grease particles I blasted off became splotches of gunk everywhere all over the car. I walked back in the house and Kate took one look at me and my clothing and said, the only place those clothes are going is in the garbage can. Those greasy clothes are not going in my washer. Back at it again in the am.

That's what laundromats are for!:rolleye:

She let you back in the house?

Yes and she told me drop those clothes by the door.

Came home today from my Sister's House again today, sweaty and dirty. Brain Heat Addled.

Did some more cleanup on yesterdays debacle and New Dash got primed and painted and will get a nice new layer of Red Vinyl just in time for a Birthday Party picnic in two weeks in Sarasota with Guest of Honor Gerry Coker.

I hope to get him to sign the corner of my new dash.

For those of you unaware of the name Gerry Coker, he's one of the designers of the Bugeye Sprite. Looking forward to meeting him, and hopefully hearing some interesting stories.

In the future, I can advise you to use the services of professional high-pressure car washing companies and not wash it yourself.

It is not so expensive that you cannot afford it, but the work will be done much better, using professional equipment and in the shortest possible time. For example, https://sparklewash.com/eastwisconsin/ offers similar services. This company provides a wide range of car wash and restoration services to the commercial, residential and fleet markets. They also tailor their services to suit your needs and recommend a customized plan that suits you and your budget.

Now that seems like a familiar statement, I thought I was the only one! :rolleyes2:

Been there done that. But, I used the local car wash and when I got home, wife had a spare set of clothes set up for me. Then she said, when done she pointed to laundry down the street. Now I just wear old clothes when doing the nasty stuff and throw them away.
