Hello!

I just joined, and really glad to find this! I acquired a 1954 TF last summer, then moved cross country form Vermont to California -- no, I didn't drive the MG there. My interest in MG goes back to a Hubley toy MG I received as a Christmas gift when I was about 3. I came of age in the era when sports sedans were replacing traditional sports cars, so my background is mostly in German vehicles, so I'm suffering from torque-spec withdrawal workingon the MG. It is on the lift right now with a burned valve and the sump off.

The MG shares garage space with 3 other vehicles - a 2001 Audi S4, 2003 Beetle TDI commuter and a 1996 BMW Z3 (supercharged).

I look forward to the camaraderie and advice on this board.

Welcome to the BCF!! Nice collection of German machinery you have there. I have an MGB and two Passats. Wife is also interested in a TT Roadster or a Boxster for her next car, so there is a common theme here.

Sorry to hear that your MG is undergoing surgery, but at least the car is so simple that it can be undertaken at home. Imagine if the same work were required on one of the Uberwagens? Ouch!!!!!!!

ooooh, nice choice on the other cars too... are you a "TDI geek" or do you just use it for commuting? any work done to your S4?

The TDI replaces a New Beetle 1.8T -- it was a great car, but I was paying $2.50/gal for a tank full of premium every 2 days. The TDI gets over 40 MPG and will do its HP in MPH. I bought the car for its mileage, but am really impressed with it overall; my only complaint is that a diesel will always sound like a washing macine full of nuts and bolts.

I haven't modded the S4 but the Z3 has about $25K in upgrades on it - 17" wheels, AC Schnitzer suspension, supercharger, etc. It's interesting to sit the Z3 next to the TF and see the progression in design. One of the fetures that really drew me to the Z3 is the way in which its designers paid homage to automobiles such as the TF.

I just can't let the TF alone. I've decided not to keep it absolutely stock, but to do the things to it that a sports car owner in 1954 would have done.

Good luck on geting the MGB!

Aloha,

Welcome to the Forum. Keep us posted on your TF, many (besides me) will be interested in your mods. I too am currently suffering from a bad valve in my TF, but should have it fixed in a few weeks.

Safety Fast,
Dave
