I would just like to say hello to everyone. Looks like a great place to find info. I am currently restoring a 70 spitfire mkIII, any tips, hints or ways to avoid common mihaps would be greatly appreciated. Pretty new to british cars, so I'm sure I will be spending lots of time on here looking for ways to make my job easier.

Welcome to BCF!
Your Spit will likely have all the typical problems of any car that is 35+ years old.
Spend some time looking at suspension, brakes and steering....these are safety items, so they are primary.
Mechanically, you should measure crankshaft thrust and look at the flex joints in the final drive. And of course there is always rust in any old car...

The good news is that these cars are simple and (usually) fun to work on. The Triumph Forum here at BCF is very active. And if you use the "Search" function, you can find lots of info on specific topics.

Welcome, Bruno - where in Indiana? There are some pretty good British car clubs up in that part of the country.
 
Vincennes, its about an hour north of Evansville. Don't know of any clubs near here but would be thrilled to learn of them.

Thanks for the info Tony. I will definitely check it out. Love the link bibber. This is the first lbc that I have owned. But I had a friend in high school back in the day that had a spitfire so I am somewhat familiar with them I know we spent alot of time just trying to keep his on the road, lol. The floorboards were so rusted through that we put a couple of pieces of wood across the floor and bolted the drivers seat to it (those were the good old days). It wasn't very safe but it kept things interesting.
 
bruno - when you visit the club, ask around for chuck cougill - one of our members - he'll point you in the right direction on your restoration.
 
Thanks again Tony. I see that they are having a car show sept 15th in Newburgh, not too far from me. I plan on going and hopefully can make a few friends, and of course check out the cars.
