Hi all,
First time classic car owner, although I've had classic bikes for a while.
Bought an Mg Midget 1500 with body rebuilt, but v poor paint.
Engine looks ok, but ran like a lame dog. Compression good. Inlet manifold loose! Timing at 16deg and some of the valve clearances a bit baggy.
Replaced distributor with electronic (original vacuum advance unit was bent!), new leads & plugs, rebuilt the Carbs on new butterfly shafts. Replaced all hoses and fitted an original header tank (someone had butchered the cooling system with random bits)
Ended up running well for 20 minutes, then running lean with what I think is vapour lock. (It will limp along with choke out)
Put a cheap electric fuel pump in front of tank last weekend, and will finish wiring it up next weekend. Fingers crossed it works. If it does I'll put a decent pump in the trunk.
