Hello everyone!

I'm now the proud owner of a 1971 Austin Healey Sprite! I've got a lot to learn about looking after old cars & will be asking some pretty stupid questions over the coming weeks - I hope everyone bears with me & I hope I'll be welcomed into the Sprite & Midget community on here.

Cheers all xxx

You will be welcomed, no doubt of that! In addition, there are no such things as stupid questions...... Only the ones that never get asked!

So, West Midlands. Tell me more, I insist! I am an escapee from Wolverhampton (though I lived most of the time in Sedgley) and still, for my sins, a long-suffering Wolves fan! (Promotion this year, though hehehe). So where in the West Mids are you?

Cookie,

Enjoy the forum - it is the best there is...

Don't forget to hit the "Pub".

Also, the gang is crazy for pictures of your progress.

Cheers,

Steve

Hi There Cookie,

"Welcome" to the "BCF". "THEE" best place on this globe to give, receive, learn or whatever you would like relative to "LBCs" (Little British Cars).

Have Fun & Best Wishes with your Sprite.

Russ

Thanks everyone for your very warm welcome! Steve, I'm in Dudley but have just driven back from Wolverhampton through Sedgley - with the biggest grin on my face! Loving my new car - and my new online friend that will hopefully help me keep her on the road! xxx

Will sort pictures as soon as I work out how - so how do I get to the pub then?)

Which pub, "The Drowning Man" in Dudley, "Red Lion" in Sedgley? Where's your watering hole? :jester:

Click on "Forum List", scroll down to The Pub forum, that's where we meet up to shoot the breeze, bench race and generally socialise. There is also live chat, look at the white box to the left where is says how many users there are in the rooms, when you see someone, click on "Live Chat", sign in with your screen name and forum password, and Bob's yer uncle......

Ha ha - the Drowning Man! There's a Struggling Man not too far away & there used to be a Smiling Man in Dudley but it was demolished some years ago! Not much on the Red Lion but quite fond of the Beacon Hotel in Sedgley.

So why New Berlin?

The Beacon Hotel. Takes me back..... We used to live the other side of Sedgley Beacon to the pub. I'm also fond of Holden's Golden, by the way, and miss Banks's beer like you wouldn't believe.

New Berlin? It's a looooong story, but the shortened version is that my parents and brother were already here in the Milwaukee area, I just settled close by.

Attended High Arcal in Woodsetton, worked at Beattie's department store before joining West Mids Police. I have a fair amount of local knowledge

Gosh, it's a small world! An old schoolfriend of mine used to work in Beatties. It's now House of Fraiser and its future looks pretty doomed - although I do hope I'm wrong as it would be very bad for Dudley if it did go.

I'm with you on Holdens but have never been a fan of Bankss, don't know if you were around when the Beacon became a brew pub, you might remember their Ruby Mild & Sedgley Suprise! Loopy juice but lovely!

Where were you based with the police? I might know some of your ex-colleagues.

I do remember the Beacon Hotel as a brew pub..... Served firstly at Ladywood, in Brummagem, then transferred over to Wolverhampton, first Wednesfield/Bilston, then Birmingham Road.....

Gosh, Wolverhampton to New Berlin, certainly a journey. Do you miss the Black Country or are you having far too much fun?! I was noodling on ebay earlier and noticed that you can buy walkers crisps!

Yes, but they are expensive! One learns to live without.......

I wouldn't say that I was having too much fun, but life is better over here. I can get my bangers, decent beer and the footy, what's not to like?

"footy"?????? :confuse:

It's a game played all over the world, where players contact a ball with their feet (kick). Known as football, futbal, le foot, etc., everywhere except in USA.
Soccer in the local patois.

Don't I feel stupid!!

Larry

 Don't feel bad. I thought it was some sort of food. Just goes to show you where my mind is.

By the way Cookie, Welcome to the Forum!!!

Ahem... chip butty anyone? :jester:
