Hi everyone. Good to be here. I've spent the last year looking for an unrestored TR6 as a project car to keep and enjoy for years to come. Last weekend I found a beautiful 2-owner, original paint, rust free, 66K mile documented, 1972 TR6 in sapphire blue. I bring the car home this weekend.

A few years ago I built a Factory Five 427SC Shelby Cobra replica which I will keep as well. The Triumph will fill the need for leisurely cruises in the countryside and open doors to a whole new group, of British car friends.

I've loved the TR6 since it came out when I was in High School. Can't wait to tinker with this one and enjoy doing it.

Sorry about the Cobra avatar, I will get the proper car up as soon as I get a good photo.

Heres a little teaser of the '72 car I just bought:

Welcome from Clarksville! Will be relocating to your area in the not too distant future.

Good looking 6 you have there. Lots of help and advice (solicited and otherwise...) here. Good to have you aboard!

First, welcome, Greg!

The 427 Cobra has its charms, fer sure. I'm familiar with the original SC monster. Tony Hogg bought the one I knew.

As for the TR-6, well done!

We're a silly bunch of enthusiastic LBC folks, anything we can do to help.

Welcome! Nice looking Trimuph! :savewave:

:savewave: While not a Healey, a good looker nonetheless. I love that blue color. You'll enjoy our forum. If you don't chat with the Boss.

Hi There Greg,

Thats a great looking TR6 you have there. I too had a Dk. Brown `72TR6 w/o. I really enjoyed the spirited ride it gave you.

I also owned a "Factory Five Cobra" (FFR1115). One of the very early Cobras & That was really cool but It was "SCARY FAST" and I sold it to a friend in Reading, PA; Who has since sold it to a friend of his in the same town. I have believe its still running around there (Red Ext / Tan Int / No Stripes / 5.0 Mustang Engine heavily reworked / 5 spd. Tremac).

Enjoy the Ride in your new toy & here as well.

Regards, Russ

Thanks for the warm welcome everyone. Tomorrow I make the long drive to pick up the TR6. Really looking forward to getting it here.

Russ, small world. I always say the Cobra has everything in excess. At least in the Triumph, I won't get the "is it real?" question. I started the MkIII build in 2004 and completed it in 2007. I'm posting a couple more Cobra photos only because the TR6 is not here yet. It kind of looks British if you squint.

Now three Triumph questions, please:

1. Should I buy a spin-on oil filter adapter
2. Is lead substitute needed for the 1972 motor
3. Is SF/SG rated oil an absolute requirement.

Thanks,
Greg

Got the TR6 home yesterday (800 miles pulling the trailer) and spent a few hours today rubbing out some oxidation on the hood and trunk. The original 39 year old paint still looks amazing. Pics to prove it happened.

Planning to add a oil 90* oil filter adapter this week and rebuild the master cylinder for a leak at the front.

Hey greg, your tr looks pretty good. I've got a pretty similiar 73- low miles, unrestored, all orginal. It has been sitting in a garage for about 25 years waiting for restoration. I was just curious of your cars mechanical condition and your plans for rebuilding. I'm in knoxville pretty frequently, maybe we could compare notes one day. Anyway this is a great forum, good luck with your car. jim

Oh my!!!

A stunning example, Greg!!

...nicely done! :savewave:

Keep us up on what ya decide to DO with it.

Did I say it's a stunning example? :jester:

Thanks for the Kudos.

Jim,
Sure. Immediate plans are to rebuild the brake MC, replace the engine TW's, and go over the car from head to foot looking at EVERYTHING. We took her out for a drive last weekend without any problems.

PM me next time you are in the area.

Greg

Hi Greg-
Nice TR6! I have a '73... in the spring I replaced the TW's on mine as well. Check out the TW that Scott Helms sells; he is a pleasure to work with and his TW's are made from a better material than you can get as stock.
