Hello Everyone!!!! Updates!

Well, We bought some property. We got 3 Acres of "out in the sticks" farmland ~dirtcheap~ (35 miles farther south than we live right now, and neighbors about 1/4 to 1/2 mile apart - just like I grew up in, in west virginia). We've been getting it ready the past several months to move our mobilehome onto. Septic tank should go in this week (providing the rain lets up). County water has been there for about a month now. And lots of clearing and grading has been going on. We have an established garden area (pics). And we've been slowly clearing tons of young loblolly pines that were growing like grass (and just as thick). Anyway, I'm sorry I've not been on here much, but we've been quite busy! I know a few of you missed me. I saw the emails a few weeks ago, but I guess I just let go of the computer as I have been very busy cutting trees and trying to get contractors lined up to get us ready to move down there this summer... and working the land and learning everything I can about what I'm going to need to know as a landowner. I'm still here though and doing well.

Re: Hello Everyone!!!! Updates!

Fantastic news, Kenny! Hope it all goes smoothly for you. A few acres of your own is a definite good thing.

That is so excellent! A couple acres - with "space" between you and the neighbors - what a great move "up". I am *so* envious!

Here's to many years of living your own "good life", and of home-grown tomatoes!

Tom

A four strand barbed wire fence in your plan yet? :smirk:

Re: Hello Everyone!!!! Updates!

 Congrats! Clearing trees, huh? Do they still sell "Absorbine, Jr.?"

Re: Hello Everyone!!!! Updates!

Well, its about time! I was planning a recon trip down your way to figure out what had happened to you this time!

Good on the land - guess you're south of the interstate now?

Re: Hello Everyone!!!! Updates!

Fantastic, Kenny. was starting to wonder where you were too. Missed the weekly ?? about dinner plans.

Living on your own land like that will give you a lot of satisfaction, I hope. Next project is to grow enough straight pines to start a log house.

Re: Hello Everyone!!!! Updates!

Thanks for all the comments guys. I am about 25-30 miles south of the interstate now Tony. Dinners have been fabulous around here, always trying something new. You really don't want to build a locally grown pine log home around here. If you lean against the wall, you might be there for a while. A fence is in the plans, but not barbed wire... Just a regular nice 2 or 3 board post and rail fence, mostly for looks. We've been studying the trees closely and keeping most of the desireable hardwoods - the oaks, elms, cedars, hawthorns, dogwoods, etc. But mostly I want to get rid of the pines. surprisingly, There are a lot of Winged Elms, and a lot of oaks underneath all those pines. Even a few fruit trees. I hope we'll have high speed internet when we move there later this summer.

Re: Hello Everyone!!!! Updates!

Kenny,
Thought about selling the pine for logging? Might not hurt to ask a few people if they would want it. Might bring in a little moola.

Re: Hello Everyone!!!! Updates!

& tell us about the baby!

Re: Hello Everyone!!!! Updates!

Not going to get much logging out of a partially covered 3 acre plot, where most of the pines can be cut with a small pair of loppers. (most of them are only about 7-8 ft tall, and 1-1/2 inches thick at the ground.) Morgan (the baby) is doing great. Babies are always so amazing. She's really smart. She's not quite 9 months old yet, and get around the house quicker than anyone can keep up with. Everything she grabs goes straight in her mouth. She is cruising (walking while holding onto something) very well now, and can sometimes stand on her own without holding onto something. Won't be long, and she'll be giggling and running away from us with something in her mouth that we know shouldn't be there. :smirk:
