Hello from Devon UK, where it's the end of another November day. Too bad the calendar says its still August.
I am of the generation that learned to drive in Ford Escorts, Hillman Imps and Morris Marinas. My own was a Morris Minor van, followed a year later by an Austin 1/2 Ton Pickup. I still have the pickup, though it's been languishing in my parents barn for more years than I'd care to admit. (In fact it has aged more years in the time that I have owned it, than it did before I owned it.)
I got bitten by the alternative fuel bug a couple of years ago, and spent 18 months driving a modified 'diesel' Vauxhall combo van on vegetable oil. I was working as a mobile engineer at the time, and clocked up an average of 200 miles per day. (If you're interested, the veg oil was purchased new, and after duty was paid on it there was about a 20p/litre saving over fossil diesel). I'm delighted to report that the van is still going strong, now owned by my Father in law and running full time on fossil diesel again.
I came across this forum whilst Googling for "Wood fired truck" I'm toying with the idea of fitting out a truck to run on wood gas. The hit I got on this site regarded a member who, if I recall correctly, was contemplating converting a toyota Corolla (or was it Carina?) to run on wood gas. I'm sorry to say I can't recall the member's name, but I hope to be getting to grips with the 'Search' button soon.
Take care,
BM
