Hello,
I'm new to your forum but have been spanning British metal for quite a while.
I presently have an 1980 MGB with a 1977 MGB for parts and one old Norton bike.
I have had a slew of different makes and models of cars and bikes but I've always relapsed into offsprings of the prince of darkness (LUCAS).
Looking forward to this site.

Welcome to the forum. I must say though, I have owned my MG for over 30 years and travelled about 300,000 miles in it, and never had lucas problems.
Same for my Jag's.
Maybe i'm lucky, or maybe the Australian climate is better for electrical stuff.
All the best, Ross.

I've had to rebuild the alternators, starters, switches in a variety of controls but I would say it's usually the connectors not the devices that go wrong.

You got that right. A 35-year-old unsealed connector can't be expected to perform very well. Yet people complain that their old, unrestored, abused cars are unreliable!

I've worked on many control systems from mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and electrical controls ( discrete and analog ) and most of the time it's the connections not the control devices. I work on automotive electrical systems to relax from troubleshooting industrial control systems ( yea I know it's kind of nuts but it works for me )and it always seems to be some interconnect problem that turns out to be the real problem.

Goes back to one of the most fundamental things that I learned in the USMC. "Is it connected properly?" "Yes?" "Check it again!" I don't know how many times I've had a Dragon test system fail a test only to pass on the retry after reconnecting the cables 4 or 5 times....

Hi and thanks. I only have a P11 left now but at one time I had eight Nortons from the Atlus to the Commando. I sold most of them but I love the Matchless frame too much in the twisties.
