ANYBODY HOME HERE???

Got the '73 Tourer back from a respray at the paint shop. There were some issues with the paint job from several years ago, and rather than try to fix it here and there, I decided to do it right. She looks better than ever! I've reinstalled the bumpers, lights, top, vent windows, etc. Still have the windows and their regulators. (While at the shop, I had them reinforce the "Crack of Doom" areas.) I'll be installing the windshield after that, and then just a few more trim pieces left.

When the guys at the shop get caught up, I'll be bringing the GT in for a respray.

Gee! I won't know what to do with myself with two cars that are actually done!

Sounds like good progress.

You go out and drive. I'll admit, I post here a bit less often with the B running as well as it is. Projects coming for the winter, but for now it's time to be driving.

And of course, as usual, we need pics Mickey or it never happened.

I may post pictures of my pulling out what little hair I have left trying to install the windshield! And this will be with the dash in place!

teehee.

Find a mechanically adept ten-year-old. :jester:

Sounds good!
Hope you can drive it soon.

I've been driving mine when I get the chance (but the race car has been chewing up some of my time).
My MGB has no real issues right now.....so nothing to report.

I helped put an engine in a racing MGB two weeks ago while I was 400 miles from home. You can see that HERE.

The last thing I did the MGB was patch together three alternators to make one good one in the Spring.

Today I'm fixing the Spridget clutch pedal slop (which is also a common problem on MGBs).
Click Here to see details of the problem.

By the by, I saw a GT in Pittsburgh with an engine swap. 2.8 V6 automatic with air/cond. and sunroof. Linda liked it a lot.

One window and regulator in!

So, how come we don't have four hands? Sure would come in handy...

And the other one's in - after a couple of interruptions and a bite to eat.

I do NOT want to do another window/regulator R&R!!! :madder:

Thank goodness for coupes.

Glad it is done.

Mickey,

Have you put the windshield trim back on yet?
I could bore with my hillclimb weekend - if you're desparate.

Windshield is still to be installed. Yesterday was just for the windows and their regulators. Have to assemble the windshield, as I had bought new seals when I removed it to have the car painted. Will probably put it together this evening. Have a funeral to do tomorrow, so installing it will be Friday. I have a friend coming in to give me a hand with that, as there's no way one person should tackle it.

When that's done, the only thing I lack is installing the door panels, windshield wipers, luggage rack, and going back over everything to make sure it's all buttoned up.

It'll be good to get it back on the road!

Then it's back to the GT to finish it up.

Windshield is assembled! New seals all around. Will install it on Friday.

Not a fun job to "build" the windshield. Miss Janet was not a willing partner, but hung in there.

And here's a tip: ratchet straps are your friends.

Well done, Mickey. You're welcome to come out to Utah when I need to redo my doors and window.

Will work for beer!

Or wine!

nice work Mickey...!

Mickey, I feel you pain. Replaced the front/rear seals and all the bright work on my 70 BGT in April. Was one of the, should I say, more humbling jobs I've done. Lots of patience & lube. But looks great when it's done and really sets off a new paint job.
The GT conversion at PVR belongs to Jim Harbold from the LANCO MG club. It's a beautiful conversion and quite a car. We all envied him on the long haul to Dillard, GA in June!!

Well, after struggling with it the better part of the day, and even with the help of one of our members (who REALLY needs to make his first post )...

It's windshield 1; Mickey 0. :wall:

Could NOT get the holes to line up. Driver's side, check; passenger side, no way! We could NOT get the bracket to line up. I'm hoping the rubber pads will compress as it sits there until tomorrow when I'll give it another go.

I don't remember it being this hard the first time I installed it...

FIDDLY bits! You need to put a pick into th' holes an' diddle th' plate into a place ya can thread a fastener into it.

Yep - did that, and more.

Something is keeping the right side from dropping down and back far enough to line up the holes. Whether the left side is started or free. REALLY confounding. Plus, the pillar on the right side seems to be farther away from the bottom rail than it was before. No reason for that, as all L-brackets are snugged up tight. Very strange.

All done in for today. Will make another stab at it tomorrow.

It's in!

Had to pull the dash partway to do it, but at least that's behind me. Now I have to locate one of the two center plate bolts that fell into the black hole somewhere and button that down.

Beer first. :thirsty:

Congrats! That is THE one job I really, REALLY dislike on the MGB.
