Heater Valve Modification and I'll Never Learn

Well, I did it...almost.

I decided a month or two ago to replace my leaking heater/water valve with the ball valve design I got from Bob Muenchausen's page.

The only thing I have left to do is to connect the wire from the temp control on the dash. The hardest part of the whole job was locating a brass 1/4" threaded-to-1/2" barbed fitting. Finally ordered two (only needed one, but I didn't want to go through this again...) from a plumbing supplier on the internet.

I don't have a set of taps, so I had a local machine shop cut and tap the original valve for me. The only charged me $8.00. So my total cost for the new installation was less than $15.00.

I got the work done in a couple of 2-hour-long sessions Tuesday and Wednesday afternoons this week. Yeah, I'm slow. But, I LIKE the way it looks and IT DOES NOT LEAK !!

The "I'll never learn" part of this story is that the temperatures hovered around 25 degrees F while I was outside doing this work (I don't have a garage...just a lean-to). I'll never learn that I'm 57 years old (tomorrow) and that my body doesn't resist bad weather like it used to. So....now I'm sicker'n a dog and can't finish the job until I get well. Been driving the car anyway.

I'll post pictures when I can.

Sorry for the long post, but what the heck. I had time to write it...maybe you had time to read it.

Old, gesh, you guys are children.

Below 50, stay inside except to take dog out.

Larry, what the heck is it doing being 25 degrees in Tennessee? That's Michigan weather.
Jack, I'm Larrys' age, and I hibernate at anything below 65F.
Happy birthday, Larry. Stay inside, have a toddy, and have a wonderful holiday.
Jeff

Below 50°F is life-threat to me, too. Still can't figure how I'd run around in aught but an "Ike" jacket in winter "up there" in western PA as a youth. Mebbe it was that I just didn't know better. Much wiser with age. I don't think Larry, Jeff or I are more'n 10 years younger than you are, Jack. As a percentage it don't amount to much and it's diminishing.

25 Degrees in the winter is common where I live in Tennessee...the Cumberland Plateau. Temperature at daybreak the past several mornings has ranged from 11 to 14 degrees. This morning (Saturday) is the first time in a week or so that the temperature was above freezing at dawn.

If you go 30 miles east or west, you get temps about 10 degrees warmer. But I like it where I am. We have a saying..."It keeps the flatlanders and tourists away."
