Heater cable & knob probably not defective

Recent forum member, maybe Icthos, had a problem
getting a dash knob locked to the end of a cable: heater
or air/defrost, something like that.

I took a hunch cable could be defective. Don't believe
that is true now. I installed a cable and knob and had
a similar experience where the knob would not lock at the
detent ball at the cable/dash end.

Fiddling with mine, I discovered that if this happened and
I grabbed the end of the cable at the dash side and pulled
the cable out a click or so, that now the knob will lock onto the cable end.

Hope my thoughts on this issue did not cause anyone any heartache.

Will comment that I loosened the set screw that holds the
inner cable in place and am having difficulty replacing
the inner cable and locking it with the set screw. Must fiddle more or buy a new cable, I suppose.

Feel bad I couldn't have shared this experience sooner.

All of the cables are a bit of a pain, but a necessary evil. You aren't the first, nor will you be the last, to have an issue with them.
