Healy factory hardtop questions

Hey any hardtop owners,
I was lucky to recently get hold of a factory 2 seater hardtop for my BN6. Got the new seals and attaching hardware and got a couple of questions for how it fits or should say sits on the rear shroud area of the BN6. The rear aluminum molding that fits under the rear window and wraps around to the side openings to fit over the side screens, <span style="text-decoration: underline">it obviously sits on the shroud and is held in place by the large J hooks</span> <span style="text-decoration: underline">and the J hook nuts as well as the locating pins, does the top simply sit on the sheet metal and any rubber seals protect the metal from getting scratched </span>? <span style="text-decoration: underline">Should there be the fabric covered push on windlace product that also fits on the aluminum molding </span>? The seal set I have simply has 1&1/8 wide flat rubber that fits in the molding but that would not protect the metal/paint at all. Anyone have a picture they can send me or post here ? I have Lin Rose's excellent article on rebuilding his 4 seater top but would think the 4 seater top sits on the cockpit molding around the rear where the 2 seater shroud is not cut as deep. Any help greatly appreciated !
Thanks,
Mike

You'd just as soon give up and cut your losses. I'd be glad to take that albatross off your hands...

... sorry I can't be of more help, but I'm making sure it's <span style="font-style: italic">one of those days</span>

Hey Randy,
If I decide to cut my losses you will be the first one I call so our sister BN6's can stay connected !

Mike, I recommend you contact Bill Bolton. He's got all the seals and replacement parts for the Healey hardtops. He also knows how to put them together. I don't have his phone number but his email is tricarb@aol.com and his mailing address is:

I think Randy only has 46 more funny posts to go.

The two seater aluminium hardtop molding does not touch the rear shroud when fitted. At least mine doesn't. There is a small gap of less than 1/4" all the way round. Obviously a rubber will seal that off. Just 2 or 3" in front of the j-hook clamps on either side the hardtop inner molding is clamped to the raised cockpit surround. Hope that helps.

 Okay, let me know if you need a paint code; burgundy wouldn't look too bad on a black/red Healey...

@ Greg: does that get me down to 45, or is that trying too hard?

Hey Johnea,
That makes sense ! All I did the other day was set it in place and with no rubber seals of any kind on the rear aluminum frame, didn't let it "sit down" entirely so as to not damage the paint. With your description and the proper rear rubber seals, can see how it should fit. Now if I can only get that burgundy color code from Randy I can get it painted and be done !!!!
Thanks,
Mike
