Healey Specs

I've been considering getting a rough but drivable and solid Healey and restoring it a bit, because I work at an LBC restoration shop. I am curious as to the power of the 100 series and 3000 series Healeys though. Please list any specs you have, and the 0-60 time, also if you have them. I just want to be able to see how it compares to some Triumphs I've been looking at in terms of performance.

Also, what's the signifigance of the 100 series and 3000 series names like BJ1 to BJ8 and AN5 to AN9?

The published specs for the beginning & end Healeys;
Year Model HP @ Rpm Cyl/CC TQ @ Rpm Weight 0-60 time

1954 100-4 90 @ 4000 4/2660 144 @ 2000 2170 11.7
1956 100-M 110 @ 4500 4/2660 143 @ 2000 2170 9.6
1957 100-6 102 @ 4600 6/2639 142 @ 2400 2422 12.2
1959 3000- BT7 124 @ 4600 6/2912 162 @ 2700 2375 9.8
1967 3000-BJ8 148 @ 4750 6/2912 165 @ 3000 2390 9.8

The various 6 cylinder models between 1959 & 1967 had figures somewhere in between. The AN models are the Sprites.

Thanks for the info Dave and the book Bruce! As of right now, I'm still thinking and looking, I'm not to the buying stage yet. That will probably come during the summer or fall.

The 100-4 stands for ability to go over 100mph and a 4 cylinder motor

100M is for modified or Le Mans-Modified
100S is for Sebring
100-6 is for 6 cylinder motor
3000 is for 3 liter motor

The BN1,BN2,BN4,BN6,BN7,BT7,BJ7,BJ8 are basically body style designations (also Mark I,II and III)and I don't know if they stand for anything significant .. maybe BN1 is body number 1? Anybody else know??

BN-1, BT-7, BJ-8 were the factory designations for the various models that are contained in the serial numbers of the individual cars. BN-1 was the model designation for the first series of Austin-Healeys. They used various numbers in series but some never made production - like the BN-3. That's all they stand for. AL Bradley

As John says, one is the first model in the series. Three & five were prototypes.
Additionally, B stood for the BMC "B" range engine size of 2,000 to 3,000 cc. "N" was two seats. "T" was four seats. The "J" had roll up windows.

The BMC "B" motor .. that makes sense.

Perhaps the "N" is for "No back seat drivers"
"T" is for "Tight squeeze", and "J" is for "Jack up the price"
