New to the forum but not to British Cars, had the bug since
1967. Right now trying to find out if anyone knows of a
modern alternative to a lucas generator for a 59 BN4 ?
Also, where to get a rebuilt LUcas if necessary?
Thanks

There are a number of sources for LBC alternator conversions, such as this one Click Here . I used the Hendrix kit and it works great. The usual suspects have other options, and rebuilt components. Note the altnernator conversion requires changing your system to negative ground. Good luck! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Thanks for the link to Hendrix - know them for their
wire wheel services. Sounds pretty straight forward
and appreciate the quick post.

BH Source, why not rebuild the dynamo yourself?-Its simpler than falling offa log. Replace the two bearings,Brushes and clean up the Commutator and you are ready to go.--Fwiw---Keoke- /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/yesnod.gif

Wouldn't happen to have a good rear tac drive Bugeye armiture would you? That's my problem, I can get all done localy but can not find a place to rewind less than 110 bucks. Might as well shoot the moon and get it all new, sigh.

No Jack, them little fellas are a bit out of my territory./ubbthreads/images/graemlins/iagree.gif with a problem like that just go with new.---Keoke

Hey Jack,
Thanks for the link for the generator info. Looks like
they are very reasonable if I choose to simply go back to
a remanufactured gen versus going to the alternator set
up. I had a bugeye back in the 60's and it was the most
fun car to drive I have ever owned !
Regards,
Mike

I have found that many rebuilders use glass beading to clean the parts. They don't do a very good job of removing the glass/cleaning the parts. Grit in the generator greatly reduces it's life. I make it a practice to open, inspect, & clean if necessary, any "rebuilt" unit.
