Allowing myself a few moments of shameless self-promotion...

I'd like to inform the Healey world of the availability of an extremely rare Healey Ski-Master boat in the Barrett-Jackson Auction in Scottsdale, Arizona, next Tuesday, January 13. Please see HEALEY BOAT and scroll down to Lot 12.2.

It is very possible to bid via the Internet; details at their website.

Full disclosure: I am the consignor.

Reid, When you took the ad out of the Healey Marque, I thought you had it sold. I'd love to buy it but I do not think the wife will let me since we got the new BN2 project. Will there be a reserve on it or will you just let it go?

Bob

I might, if time permits, but it is surprising how time it can consume to do such reports, especially with photos, and then I also want to get to some of the other auctions in the area that week, and so may not be at B-J for each Healey auction.

If I do find time, I'll post the reports here. (I didn't have time for my old blog and have deleted it.)

I was slightly surprised that it did not sell from the ad in the mag, especially at my low price. I got a few nibbles, but everyone wants to knock you down on price, so I guess I should have offered it at much more than I was actually willing to accept! I made the mistake of offering it at my true minmum price.

I have an estimate of a $12,000 value for it from a local vintage boat restorer.

There are no reserve prices at Barrett-Jackson. Wish me luck!

Did you notice that there are at least two Geo models for auction. How did those get to be classics? I would rather have a Healey boat, but it is bigger than my pond.

That boat was quite the deal. I would have bought it, but it's too small for where I go boating. Plus, I think the 12K figure is a bit low, especially for what similar quality wooden boats are going for now. Best of luck, Reid.

Reid,

I really think you should have taken a page out of the DMH marketing manual and had a bikini clad model in your photos or at least have Stirling Moss driving the boat in the action shots. A bidding war would be sure to follow.
Good luck with the auction.

Funny you should mention it. Here's an action shot of a Ski-Master with Stirling Moss, and a letter to DMH from Stirling via his manager. (I'll have copies with me at the auction.)

If I were Barrett-Jackson I would have paired the boat with the Bugeye back to back in the auction...would be too cool to have a Healey and Healey boat together..

Reid...I would have traded you my 1965 Boston Whaler with 55 H.P. Homelite outboard for the Healey Boat!!!

Best of Luck at the auction.

I suggested that they give it a time slot near a Healey car and the idea seemed to take them completely off-guard. I would have thought that such an idea was a natural for the masters of marketing at Barrett-Jackson. Obviously they didn't run with the idea. Maybe they should hire me.

Reid, Is that the correct motor on your boat? It looks different then the photo above.

The motors were sold separately by dealers, but generally speaking in the UK they had Scott Atwater motors, and in North America they had Mercury motors. I believe that the motor on my boat is the one that was originally sold with it, and it is period-correct for the boat, but not having owned the boat from new, I can't swear to it. At the very least however, there is no reason to believe that it is NOT the original motor.

Healey boat went for $12,100 less commision, travel, shipping etc..

I have a friend selling his Healey boat. This one's an INboard with an Austin engine. Here's his email to me:

I'm selling my Healey Sportsboat. It has the inboard, Healey Marine 55
motor, and a trailer. I will be taking offers on this rare piece of Healey
history. If you know of someone interested, please pass this along. I have
the ability to store the boat for the purchaser if need be. Boat is one hour
north of Milwaukee.
Pictures, as found https://www.thicko.com/marine.htm. There was also an
article about many years ago in the AHCA Chatter. This was the first Healey
boat to surface (pun intended) in the states.
The boat is fairly complete. Engine is out. All the expensive structural
hull restoration was done by a wooden boat restoration specialist, and the
inner hull is painted to original red color. The boat also had work done on
the teak plywood deck. There is a new, correct windshield for the boat, and
somewhere (I hope) I have the interior panels that I had reupholstered.
Current pictures can be provided. I am offering the boat here first before
placing it on Ebay, or something similar. Severin Thompson wsthompson@thicko.com

I've seen it. I want it. I can't have it, she says.
